Beautiful Crater Lake

We had a beautiful day at Crater Lake.  There wasn't a cloud in the sky and hardly any wind so the lake was like glass.  We brought a pic-nic lunch and drove all the way around the lake.  Something I had not done before.  The little ground squirrels were so tame and so cute!  We stopped at Becky's restaurant in Prospect on the way back for some pie.

Dad's Birthday

Rich had a wonderful birthday.  On Sunday September 1st, his mom treated us to Road House Grill.

On Wednesday, September 4th, our friends, Dan & Kristine had us all over for dinner.  Rich made a cheese cake and I decorated it with fresh peaches and white icing.  We had a fun evening.

Denman Wildlife Reserve

We had such a beautiful morning at the Denman Wildlife Reserve.  It is so beautiful and so close to where we live.  We went fishing but did not catch anything but had so much fun watching all the wild birds on and by the lake.  Here is a Canadian Goose paddling by.
The reserve is very close to the table rocks.
Mary and her dad casting for fish.
The sun was so bright and the sky so blue.
I just love this little lake.  It looks like it came right out of painting.
These ducklings came right up to us, looking for a hand out.
Mt McLoughlin in the distance.
The mama took her ducklings out on the water for a mid morning snack of water  plants.
There was a half moon in the sky.  Today marks the 50th anniversary of Apollo moon mission returning to earth and splashing down in the pacific.
Our little duck family came found us for lunch.  The mom is sticking her head under the car door.

Saying Good bye to our Mackie Boy

We had to put our little guy down today.  It was a very sad day for us as we have had him for 8 years.  He was such a cute little guy and so smart.  He was over the top on barking and was afraid of people he didn't know.  He also had a nipping problem from puppyhood but he was our dog and we loved him.  We had originally got him for our daughter who was 4 years old at the time and was begging for a dog but he ended up adoring Rich.  He was a little bit to busy and anxious to be a good little kid dog.  So Mary never bonded with him.  A little over 2 years ago, Mary's piano teacher gave her a beautiful cat.  She was half Himilayian and was the sweetest thing.  By this time Mac was 6 years old and had been our only pet.  He routinely chased all cats out of our yard.  So, sad to say he never accepted Mary's cat, Ellie.  So, we had to keep the two in separate parts of the house.  This added to Mary's unhappiness with Mac.

Rich retired in 2017 and Mac followed him around like a shadow.  He got to be with the one he adored all day! 4 1/2 months after Rich retired Mac got a neck injury from jumping off the back of the couch.  We took him to the vet to be examined and he bit the vet.  We were so shocked it all happened so fast.  It ended up being a nightmare because we had not kept up on his Rabbies booster shot.  So we had to keep him at home for 10 days with no medical attention.  He was in horrible pain, we didn't know whether he would recover or not.  I was so glad Rich had retired so he could help me with his care.  So when he pulled through, he even became closer to our hearts but his health problems began.  He would not let us groom him without putting a plastic cone on him and a horrible fight from him.  We were as gentle as possible but he turned vicious and would bite us if we tried to do anything without the cone.  He got really shaggy.  He still liked his bath but would not tolerate any grooming.  If we weren't grooming him, he was loving and nice.  So we took him to the vet and told her our problem and she prescribed some calming drugs.  We were so hopeful and tried them out.  He didn't respond well to them.  They made him drowsy but as soon as the grooming stuff came out he still turned into a tasmanian devil.  We tried a couple different kinds of medicine and they didn't work.  He has always been sensitive to medication and has had a weak tummy.  So, we gave up.  We did get his back end shaved but we couldn't do his head because of him trying to bite us and also with his jerking around we were afraid he would get hurt.  So his little face and chest just got full of hair balls and mats that made him scratch and he could hardly see.  His nails got really long and we knew his quality of life was ebbing away.  We couldn't trust him around anyone he didn't know for fear he might bite them if they tried to pet him and touch him.  Poor little guy he just a had a bad genetic code from in breeding and he couldn't help but be so anxious and bite.  We just couldn't have a dog like that.  It wasn't fair to him or to us.  The great big owey was that we loved him and felt so sorry for him.  Today we had to take him into the vet to be put to sleep.  Rich took him in and held him.  Mary and I stayed out in the car.  I was crying and Rich had tears streaming down his face when he came out.  It was so hard to come home and he was not there.  He had been such a big part of our lives but we knew we had done the right thing and that Mac would not be suffering any more.

Good bye Puppy Boy, we tried the best for you and it just didn't work.  We know you were an innocent little guy and couldn't help your bad breeding by your first owner.  We loved playing with you and your favorite pink rabbit.  How I longed for you to be the calm loving little family dog that we wanted for Mary but it just didn't work out that way.  Maybe when I get to heaven, there will be a little you without all your anxiety problems.  Good bye little boy.  Hugs and kisses from us.

Saying Goodbye to Grandpa

Rich's Dad's memorial service was held on April 25, 2019.  It was a lovely service held at the Conger Morris chapel in Central Point.  It was a sweet group of friends and family.  A man from their church played the guitar and played several of Dad's favorite hymns.  They were How Great Thou Art and What Friend We Have in Jesus.  Maura's husband, Brook, officiated the service.  Rich and I put together a slide show of pictures of Dad from the time he was a baby until he was old.  Several people shared memories of Dad including Brook, John (their next door neighbor), Mary and I.  I shared a short paper called the Last Goodbye.  Rich read 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18.   We then traveled to Eagle Point where Dad was buried in the National Veteran's Cemetery.  The weather was beautiful and the cemetery is beautifully kept.  He had a full military internment.  Here are some pictures of the day:

The Last Good-Bye
Many lasts are not known until they have passed...
I remember with fondness and sorrow, some of the lasts for Dad...
I remember the last story he told.  It was just a few weeks ago and we were watching the weather channel and they were reporting on a really bad hail storm in the midwest.  Mary really liked watching the weather channel with the folks.  Dad seen Mary's big eyes about the huge hail.  He told her the story of He and his brother Lon had gone to visit relatives in Texas and they had a car with running boards.  They let Lon and Dad stand on the running boards as they were driving.  All of a sudden a terrible hail storm started with huge stones falling.  The relatives inside the car yelled, put your heads inside the car so you won't get killed by a hail stone.  Mary was so taken with the story.  She loved stories Dad told especially about farm experiences and things that happened to him when he was young.  I fondly remember Dad and his stories.  Some of them he told many times and each time he told them with enthusiasm like it was the first time he ever told it.

I remember the last time we prayed over a meal and he held my hand as Rich prayed.  It was when mom, Mary and I stopped at Panda Express after we shopped at Walmart.  We got their Terriaki chicken bowl.  He could not eat much but mom got the chicken with chow mein noodles and he was able to eat just a little.  It reminded me of how he always made sure that whatever they were fixing for the meal that there was a lot.  He never skimped on the amount of food, making sure there was plenty for everyone.  He always offered seconds and thirds to you, making sure you had plenty.

I remember the last gift he gave me was for my birthday.  He was always so generous and loved giving gifts and receiving gifts, even if it was small and simple.  It was one of his love languages.  He loved to give Mary Christmas ornaments.  Each year from the time she was born until she was 8 he gave her a lovely ornament.  The last one was a wood carving out of balsa wood of the nativity scene of Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem.  Every Christmas there was a card with a gift of money for each one of us kids.  This reminded me of how he always made sure that he had cash in his wallet.  When he was too sick to go out, he always made sure mom got him cash to put in his wallet, that he kept laying on his chest of drawers so he would have money to give someone for a gift or to pay them for something he needed them to get for him.

I remember the last picture he took.  It was of Mary and Mom standing by the beautiful flowers and balloons that were for their 70th Wedding Anniversary.   He was using his phone to take the picture.  He had the setting wrong and it was taking a selfie instead of Mary and Mom.  I stepped in and helped him get it changed to take the picture in the right direction.  It made me think of how much he loved pictures.  He never tired of looking at pictures and sharing them with people.  When Mary was a toddler and I was taking tons of digital pictures, I tried my hand at some artsy pictures and took a lot of Mary walking away from me in the yard.  I remember Dad looking at them and asking mom why I took pictures of the back of Mary's head.  I laughed and remembered the era he grew up in, with film being expensive and a picture of the back of the head would of been a waste of film.  I also remember what Rich told me how he got Dad interested in having a personal computer.  He showed him how you could photo shop a picture.  Rich took a picture of dad and his fishing buddies all lined up and then he super imposed a huge fish on it, so it looked like they were all holding a huge fish.  Dad was hooked and bought his own personal computer.

I remember the last good bye.  We had the bed set up in the living room that day but he was still sitting in the recliner.  I bent over to hold his hand and wish him good night.  He kissed my hand and I told him I loved him.  The following times we were there, he was sleeping when I left and did not get to tell him good bye.  I know that when we get to heaven we won't have to say good-bye anymore, we will just say hello.

The voice of the Apostle John says in Revelation 21:4,  "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.  And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”
