Bloomin' Tuesday

Flowers are popping out all over! I re-potted our Avocado tree. It is loving the summer weather! I planted a nice little flower garden in its old pot. Mary helped me. I am in the height of fun, being able to garden in the lovely weather and having my little girl help me!

Blog to Book

Happy Monday everyone! Last week I found this wonderful web page. It is www.blurb.com It lets you download their software for free that allows you to make your blog in to a book and then you have to pay to have it printed. I had been wanting to save my posts in a written form for Mary when she gets older for a while now but I didn't know how to do it. I had my husband download the software for me and it is very easy to use. It lets you select which posts you want to print and then imports them into a book form that you then go through and edit. So far it is working out great! I have not had it printed yet, so I am not sure how that will go, but I wanted to share this info in case someone else might be interested in having their blog put into a book form. Show and Tell Friday - Emmy Girl

Today on Show and Tell I am going to share a special little book of my daughter's that I bought for her this last Easter. It is about a little girl and her lamb. An earlier post, Hinds Feet on High Places, explains why I really like that image. You can go to it here. The little girl in the book's name is Emmy. That is an affectionate name my husband calls our daughter on occasion. It is short for Mary Ellen, M.E., or Emmy! Most of the time we call her Mary but if you ask her what her name is, she will say, "Emmy." I discovered she called herself that one day when I heard her talking to herself and making up a little story and she referred to herself as Emmy. The book is so sweet about this little girl, Emmy, who bottle feeds this little lamb that can't be nursed by his mom. She takes care of him, names him Timothy, and keeps him until he is big enough to live on his own. I have included some pictures from the book. My favorite one is where the little girl is hugging the lamb. It is the same pose as the figurine I bought Mary from Willow Creek figurine collection that I have it in her room. Outback

Outback Steakhouse is Rich's and my Father-in-law's favorite restaurant. So, that is the place to go for special occasions. The restaurant was packed for Father's Day as it is a lot of other dad's favorite place too! We had a wonderful meal. Here are a few pictures I took.

In honor of Father's Day I have made a slide show of Mary and Rich. Rich is such an awesome Father to Mary. I am also feeling so thankful today as I have a wonder Dad and Father-in-law. They both have been very loving and consistent in my life. They love our Heavenly Father and I have been blessed so much by them!

Bloomin' Tuesday

It is Bloomin' Tuesday and I want to share a few flowers in my garden. I have a red begonia blooming on our front porch and my Asiatic lilies are blooming by our shade cover in our back yard. Mary is admiring their very sweet fragrance. At first she said, "Ohh Mommy those are stinky!" I said, "Oh baby, those smell so sweet!" Then she went back over and smelled them again and said, "Those are so sweet!" As you can see she is expanding her vocabulary. LOL

Hard As Rocks

Last Friday evening I was picking up things in the living room. I changed the quilt on our futon in the process. When I came back with a different quilt, I looked down at the carpet and saw something. I have been potty training Mary for a couple of months now and every once in a while a little something drops out of her drawers. A few weeks before this incident she was in her bedroom with me and she got a funny look on her face and said “uh oh” and pulled on her training pants and shook her leg. A little brown something dropped out. She looked liked she was thinking, "Whew got rid of the rock in my pants!" I couldn't help but laugh at her. I held back a little because I didn't want to encourage this behavior. I told her that if she had to go, she needed to tell Mommy and sit on the potty. Well with that incident in my mind, I looked down at the little somethings on the carpet this evening and I proclaimed loudly, “Mary, did you go potty in your pants!!!” She gave me this blank look on her face. Rich turned around from the computer and said, "I don’t think she has gone recently. That might have been from a while ago." This thought grossed me out, thinking that these little jewels had been on the living room floor for a while. He said, “ You should see what they are like, if they are dried or not.” This grossed me out more and I said, "I’m not touching them." I went over and got a baby wipe and gingerly picked them up. I said, “Man, Honey these must have been from a while ago, because they are as hard as a rock“. I quickly walked to the bathroom and dropped them out of the baby wipe into the toilet to flush them. As I reached for the toilet handle I looked down....they were rocks! I doubled over laughing. I walked out of the bathroom and said sheepishly to Rich, "Honey I just put rocks in our toilet!" I had forgotten that she had found a couple of rocks outside when she was playing and I let her bring them in the house. I apologized to Mary for accusing her of dropping her doodles on the floor. With a big smile she said, “That’s OK, Mommy!” She is such a little sweetheart. Rich told me to fish them out with my hand, but I said, "You know honey my thing with toilets." The idea grossed me out. So being the nice guy he is, he got up fished them out for me! Moral of the story: Don’t jump to conclusions before further investigation!

Getting Better

This weekend was all about getting better! My hubby, Rich, was really sick last week. He doesn't get this sick very often. He had been struggling with allergies the last few weeks and then he caught this terrible cold. He went to work Monday and Tuesday feeling bad. When he got up Wednesday morning, I said, "Honey, you are not going to work!" This time he agreed with me and I knew he had to be feeling bad. He rested all day but was weak and looked very pale. He did a lot of coughing and then in the evening he said he was having trouble breathing. I asked him if he wanted me to take him to urgent care but he said he thought he would be alright until morning. I got a 9:00 am doctor's appointment. He was gone for a long time and I began to worry. He told me when he got back, that they almost put him in the hospital because his blood oxygen was so low. They put him on a breathing machine with medicine in a vapor form and his blood oxygen level went up 5 points. So that was good. They took a chest x-ray and his lungs were clear. So, no pneumonia. Thank goodness. The doctor told him that all the allergies from the spring pollen had aggravated his asthma and set him up for getting this bad cold. So, he gave him a very strong antibiotic and an inhaler. He came home and rested all day and his color looked much better and his cold began to clear up! Poor little Mary felt so sorry for Daddy! She laid on the foot support of the recliner he was in. He didn't want her to get too close, so she wouldn't get what he got. But... the next day she came down with a runny nose and a slight cough. So, we couldn't take her to church. She is recovering quickly. Today she has a very slight runny nose and is running around as usual. Thankfully she has been a very healthy child. She has had no major cold, flu or sickness yet and she is 2 1/2! What a blessing from the Lord. The dear Lord has been easy on us, as He knows how worried we would be if she got really sick.

Thank goodness the sickness is on its way out the door!

Today I am sharing our grapevine that grows outside our patio door. I have made a short slide show that displays its amazing transformation in a short period of time. In the fall we harvest huge bunches of table grapes from it. I bought this grapevine for my husband when we lived in Southern California. It did not produce grapes or do very well until we moved up here to Oregon. It loves this climate and soil!

Bloomin' Tuesday

It is Bloomin' Tuesday and I am going to share some pictures of my blue delphinium. I am glad I got these pictures as we had a couple of thunderstorms with lots of rain the last couple of days. The wind and rain did my flowers some damage. It broke off several stems of my delphinium.

I also have baby roses blooming and dianthus.

My daughter loves to smell the roses!
