Happy Easter!

I love Easter time...

The special pictures at the photography studio:

Carrot cake for breakfast.  The frosting is the best!

Having our little friend get a taste too.

Now that is what I am talkin' about!

Dyed eggs, bathed in the late afternoon sun.

Mr. Rabbit and his wife had to check on our work!

The gardener in me loves Easter time very much as it is time for new life.

The most important thing and greatest joy of Easter to me is said in this verse:

The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.  Luke 24:7

I pray you have a blessed Easter!

Baby Isaac

This past weekend Mary got to meet her little cousin, Isaac. Because we had Mary late in life all Mary's first cousins range from 12 to 36 years older than her. They are all adults and have their own lives. But she does get to have fun with her cousins kids. On my husband's side she has 2 cousins removed that are only a few years older than her and she had a lot of fun playing with them a couple of Thanksgivings ago when they came to visit. Now my niece, Sherri, and her husband, Jeremy, have a little baby 6 years younger than her. He was born a couple of weeks after Mary's 6th birthday. We were so excited to meet him for the first time when his folks came up to visit my sister and brother-in-law, Isaac's grandparents. As I mentioned in an earlier post that Mary loves babies! So she was super excited. She got to hold him and do some dance moves for him.

When my niece was first pregnant with Isaac before they knew if the baby was going to be a boy or girl, I thought she might be having a girl.  Well she didn't but she sure had a cute little boy that looks so much like her when she was a baby.

Australian Aborigane Dot Art

Mary and I have been having a lot of fun this year with art.  I want her to have a good old fashioned Kindergarten experience.  I know lately there has been a lot of emphasis on early reading and math but I don't want to rush Mary on this.  I realized that since we have been doing a lot of art, which she loves, it has strengthened her fine motor skills and her penmanship has improved greatly.  It helps her express herself before she actually gets to writing things down and it is whole lot of fun.  Today we learned about a new art technique.  I had seen it on Pinterest and went to the web site.  It was all about Australian Aborigine Dot Art.  There was a video of a woman of Aboriginal descent with a thick Australian accent giving the tutorial and Mary just loved it.  So I asked her what she would like to make.  Well, in her mind dots means spots, so she wanted to make a Cheetah. I had her draw the out line of a Cheetah and then fill it in with dots.  She chose yellow and black paint.  She made the dots with q-tips.  She had so much fun learning something new and making some thing she was really proud of.

I love her tongue.  If you fix your tongue just right it helps with all the dot making.

Here is her finished painting.  I thought she did a great job.  She told me that she made the cheetah have 3 toes on the front paws and 4 toes on the back because that is how a cheetah is in real life.  I haven't checked that one out yet, but I sure thought it was cute. :)

Little Miss Mommy

This is a post to remind me of my sweet Mary at six.  She is such a little mother hen.  It started when she was five, telling me how she wanted to meet a godly man and get married and have a baby boy.  Then a few months later it changed to having 8 children.  She loves going with me on Thursday mornings to babysit for a Women's Bible Study.  Most of the children are a lot younger than her and she loves it, bringing them toys and kissing them on the head and calling them the little darlings.  Well today we went to the library and a little boy was sitting on the floor making a lot of noise.  She turned to me and said, "He needs to be quiet."  I said his mom will take care of that.  Then my eyes landed on 3 book carts in the lobby that had videos and books for sale really cheap.  The friends of the library were having a sale.  So we were looking over them and Mary kept looking at the little boy and shooshing him quietly with her finger over her lips.  Then the mom told the boy and his brother to walk out to the lobby, they did all but walk...running, jostling and making noise.  The mom went out to the lobby and told them to try that again only walking.  They did a little bit better but not much.  I could hear the frustration in the mother's voice as she was trying to get her boys in control.  To say the least it was not going well.  Mary then sidled up to me and whispered in my ear, "I am going out there to help that mom out."  I quickly said, "Oh no you are not.  That is for their mom to handle and it is not our business."  She then hugged me and said she loved me.  We got busy with checking out books and buying our movies that I forgot about that little episode until Rich got home and she was in bed.  The thought of it just made me laugh.  She is such a little mother hen.  I think she is going to make a great mom and who knows, after she gets married to that godly man maybe God will give her eight children...

Getting Over the Crud

Well the last ten days have been all about getting over the crud or as Mary puts it "the cud".  Sunday night 10 days ago Mary started getting a rough voice and then sneezing and coughing followed.  I came down with it on Tuesday with a fever and weakness and Rich followed on Wednesday.  He didn't get a fever and had the lightest case of the three of us.  He missed 3 days of work because at the hospital at his new job in sterile processing you have to be well.  No sickie's at work.  So he stayed home and took care of us.  Have I said how much I love my husband?  He babied me and Mary by cooking us soup and wonderful warm homemade sourdough bread and let me rest and did the dishes and cleaned up.  When I thought we were on the mend by Friday, Mary came down with a fever and coughing so hard she threw up.  So was our weekend, keeping her fever down, having her drink lots of fluids and praying.  I was so worried.  Her sweet little face was thin and pale.  This is the sickest she had been in her whole life.  She has never been sick more than 2 or 3 days with something.  She just wasn't getting better.  So we took her to the doctor yesterday and she had a double ear infection.  So now she is on antibiotics, fever is gone, sleeping without coughing and getting color back in her  little cheeks.  During her long cabin stay, Rich planted garden seeds with her and she got so excited so see them sprout.  Hopefully we will have cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers growing this summer in the garden.  Rich is always such an inspiration to me with all his cooking projects and wanting to plant and make things.  He made some homemade ham, cured it in the fridge.  It was so yummy.  It tasted like corn beef.  He made the most wonderful soup with it.  It had carrots, noodles, chicken broth and chunks of the ham.  There is nothing that warms the body like that kind of soup when you are feeling lousy.  Through all our couch days and movie watching our sweet little pup warmed our laps and kissed our cheeks.  I am so glad little dogs don't get our bugs and can be such a sweet comfort to a little girl who is not feeling well.  Thank you Lord for your goodness to us and all the wonderful things we have and for your healing touch in our lives!

Yummy sourdough bread fresh from the oven.
