Daddy's Birthday

We celebrated Rich's birthday this weekend.  We just had a very relaxing day and small family celebration.  This is my tribute to him: Happy Birthday to my wonderful, talented and loving husband. I am so happy and proud to be his wife. He is a Journeyman mechanic that works on machines of all kinds, ice machines, ice cream machines, grills, refrigeration, heating and air conditioners, makes an awesome wage so I can stay home with Mary, he is artistic and makes beautiful ceramic lamps that he is going to sell and transition out of repair work, he writes beautiful poetry, cooks breakfast every morning, he is an inventor and is working on new kind of ice machine, he has acted in Shakespeare plays, was prop master in many productions. Plus many other things! Most importantly is he is a humble man that loves God with all his heart!

Movin' on up!

We have been house training Mac and he has been doing really well.  He goes out on the lawn now, so we are letting him out of the kitchen and on the carpet when we are able to watch him.  Mary has been having a lot of fun playing with him.  She sits on the couch and throws his toys so he can chase after them and bring them back to her.  This had been the summer of the puppy for us.  He has been our fun and joy watching him grow and taking care of him.
They are best buddies!

He's all happy playing with his toys

He sure would like on the couch but he's not quite big enough.

He loves laying on Mary's stuffed toys.

Candy Corn Festival Day!

Mary woke up yesterday morning and said, "Mom, lets make today Candy Corn Festival Day!"  So, I said that that was a great idea!  Since we don't have any holidays in August I thought that would be great day to set aside in our household for a candy corn festival.  We made a candy corn garland and some red velvet cup cakes that we decorated with candy corn.  She couldn't wait for her daddy to come home from work and see all our stuff!  Here are a few pics on what we did:

Going to the Car Wash, Yeah!

Well, you know you live in a small town when ... going to the car wash is big entertainment!  LOL  We took our van through the car wash this weekend and it was Mary's first time.  I always took our car by myself because I was not sure how she would react.  When she was small she was got very distressed at loud or unusual sounds, so I didn't want to frighted her.  So, now Rich is driving and I am sitting beside her and she is old enough to have fun with it and she did!  Here is the video of her car wash ride:)

Pumpkin Possibilities

Mary's pumpkin vine has been flourishing since we planted it this spring but it has not had any pumpkins on it.  It had lots of blooms but they were all male flowers.  Pumpkin vines produce both male and female flowers.  The female flowers have the fruit and the male pollen must be put on the female flowers to produce the pumpkins.  That is the bees job but you can get some pollen from the male flower with a Q-tip and put it on the female flower just to make sure it gets germinated.  Those are interesting facts that I learned from my sister who is an avid vegetable gardener.

This morning when I was taking Mac out to go potty, I spied this lovely flower.  The ants were all over it drawn by the nectar is was producing and ...

Sure enough there at the base was a baby pumpkin!

So I got the pollen from a male flower and put it on the female flower just in case.  We will see what happens!

Birthday Party Fun

Mary had fun going to her good friend, Mady's, birthday party this weekend at a local spray park.  Here are the girls being silly with Mady's birthday girl button.

The birthday cupcakes were delicious!

They had cute lady bug candies on them!

Blackberry Bramble

Our neighbors on the other side of our fence have a huge blackberry bramble in the back of their property.  In years past I have just had a few little bunches come over the fence that we just ate fresh when they ripened.  But, this year we have had a bumper crop come over the fence.  I think there were several things that caused it.  Our other neighbor sprayed all along his fence line to kill the vines near them, I pruned the big canes that came over the fence but did not spray it with any vegetation killer and we have had a super wet winter and summer.  Blackberries love water.  So, we have these huge berry bunches hanging over our fence.  Now, I can just stand in our yard and pick the berries without having to deal with all the thorny vines.  Pretty nice!  I made a blackberry cobbler with my first bowl full and the one that Mary is holding I froze and will freeze more to make jam later.  Mary wants to help me pick them so bad but she is just not tall enough, so she settles for holding the bowl for me as I pick.  She is such a sweet little helper!  Here are a couple pictures of our wonderful black berries:)
