A Mystery

I am sitting down to write about something that has been a mystery to me and I thought was lost but God in his great love and mercy has revealed something very dear to my heart. I will start at the beginning. Fifteen years ago I had 2 dreams that I wrote down in my dream journal knowing that they were special but I did not have the full understanding of them until this very month, July 2010.

The first dream I had September 22, 1995 while I was living by myself in a small granny flat in Vista, California. I dreamt that I was asleep in my bed and I heard a noise in my living room. I got up to see what it was. It was a small brown haired boy standing in the middle of the room. His hair was slightly wavy, cut in a medium length almost like a sugar bowl hair cut and he had light colored eyes. I was so surprised to see this little guy in my house and I asked him how he got in. He had a little mischievous look on his face and he smiled and said, “Oh, I just let myself in!” I couldn’t believe that because I always locked the french doors before I went to bed. I went over and pulled the curtains back to check the door and instead of my front door area, there was a street scene. Everything sparkled and gleamed. I thought this must be a spiritual dream and I need to pay attention to every detail. There was an light haired man with a military cut looking in very sadly through the window, then my sister and her daughter walked by and further out was my oldest sister talking to a man and she was a young woman in her early 20s. Finally my sister with her daughter walked by again. I looked back into the living room where the little boy had been but he was gone. That was the end of the dream.

The second dream I had a couple of months later on November 21, 1995. I dreamt I was in the home I grew up in and I was watching my mother walk down the hall very wearily with a walker. She sat on her bed and I realized she was pregnant. I asked her when the baby was due. She said December 30th but it could be sooner and that she was worried because she had not felt the baby move. I comforted her by saying that I had heard that the baby could be really crowded and just didn’t move much. She asked me if I would like to see the baby and before I could reply, her side sparkled and became crystal clear. I saw a baby boy in a little bed. He was not kicking and he was blue. I looked away and when I looked back to take a second look his color had turned to pink and he was sucking his thumb. I reached in and picked him up. He had black hair that stood up like a crest on his head and had thinning temples. I realized he was not my brother, Ben. Ben was a blue baby at birth but gained color very quickly and was born on December 28th shortly before his due date. I loved this little baby very much but I had to put him back and my mother’s side closed over. When I saw her tummy, I realized it was mine and the baby boy I saw was my baby.

I kept these dreams hidden in my heart and believing they were from the Lord telling me about a child I would have. Four years after having these dreams. I was shopping in a Marshall’s store looking for clothes. There was also a housewares section and a small book section. On impulse I started looking through the books and my eye fell on a book called, “The Velveteen Rabbit”. The thing that caught my eye was the picture on the front of a little boy that looked so much like the little boy in my first dream. The artist was Donna Green and her paintings that illustrated this book captured my heart. I bought the book, my only purchase that day, and walked out the door.

Jumping ahead to 2001 I met the man I was going to marry. We had so many fun conversations when we were getting to know each other. One time Rich said that if he ever had a little girl he would love to name her Mary. That was his mother’s first name. Even though I was 41 and he was 46 the thought of having a baby made us both very happy. After our marriage in 2002, we talked more seriously about what we would name a child if God blessed us that way. We decided to name a girl, Mary Ellen, for his mother and my mother and for a boy we would name him Benjamin Daniel, for my dad and his dad.

On November 21, 2004 I took a home pregnancy test and it was positive. My mind went back to my dreams and I realized that I found out I was pregnant exactly 9 years from the date I had the second dream. I was so thrilled and believed that this was the child that we would have and raise. A precious gift from God. I had several doctor’s appointments and my pregnancy was confirmed and due date set by the sonogram I had. I was due July 23, 2005. Tragedy hit when they could not find a heart beat and I lost that little one at Christmas time and had a D&C on December 29th. I was heart broken and could not understand why this happened. But God was good to us and I became pregnant 14 months later and we had a beautiful baby girl, Mary Ellen. After her birth the dreams mystified me as they were about a little boy and I had a girl. So I just thought that the little boy in my dreams just stood for a child in general. I felt that way until this month, the month our first baby would of turned 5 years old. I was going through some books I had saved for Mary. In that bunch of books was the Velveteen Rabbit with those beautiful paintings of the little boy. As I looked at the paintings my heart jumped. He looked a lot like Mary, he looked like he could be her brother. I pulled up some recent pictures of Mary and compared them to the pictures of the little boy. The resemblance was amazing!

God has given me the interpretation of the dreams I had so long ago. The little boy was our child that we lost. He was lost to us, but not to the Lord. In the first dream, he came from the outside, a place of disappointment and sorrow. The people in the street scene were as follows: my oldest sister who has great sadness because she never was pregnant and never had a child, my niece who has had sorrow over 2 miscarriages and has not yet been blessed with a child, the man closest to the french doors was some one who had lost a child also. In the dream the little boy came from out there but God was showing me he was not lost, that he had come into my home and that he is alive in heaven. The second dream had some imagery of sorrow and loss. My mother walking down the hallway with a walker was a picture of her right before she died but we know she is with the Lord. My mother also lost a baby boy when she was 3 months pregnant at Christmas time and they were going to name him Benjamin. My brother was born next, on December 28th. He was born a blue baby and they named him Benjamin. I knew the baby I miscarried was a boy even though I have no medical evidence of it. Benjamin Daniel is with the Lord and we will see him one day. The Lord in his great love has shown us what he looked like as a baby and what he looks like at Five. I look forward to the day I will be able to go to heaven and embrace our precious son.

I'm so Glad I Said, "Yes!"

Eight years ago today the sun was setting on a beautiful Southern California beach. Rich and I were walking off our meal that we had at our favorite fish house. We had stuffed ourselves with very yummy food! Just as the sun met the water, Rich turned to me, pulled out a white ring box, opened it and it held a lovely heart shaped diamond ring! He asked me if I would marry him. I threw my arms around him and said, "Yes!" We stood there on that beach and talked about our love and when we would marry. I told him for the first time that I had a wedding gown that I had purchased the year he moved to California. I didn't know him then or have any promise of marriage and that now I knew why I bought that dress:)

We were so happy that day and are still so very happy today!

Come Play With Me

We went to a new playground that I have not been to before. Mary loved it especially the big slides! She likes the steep ones that make her go really fast. She had so much fun with her little friend, Mady, playing in the playground and the water park right next to it.

Bloomin' Tuesday

I have so many of my flowers in bloom right now that I thought I would do a slide show of them. The music I used is one my husband's favorites. It comes from the movie, "Babe" and it is called Camille Saent-Saens. The farmer sings part of this song to the pig, Babe, when he is really sick from a cold the night before he is to go to the sheep trials. The song energizes Babe and he recovers from his cold and makes the farmer so proud when he wins the sheep trials even though he is a pig and not a sheep dog. It you have not seen the movie I would recommend it as a really fun one.

At my right hand there are pleasures forever

Today would of been my mother's 81st Birthday. She went home to be with the Lord 22 years ago. She was such a powerful influence in my life to bring me to the knowledge of God and His great love for me. She told us this story a number of times in our young lives and I wanted to share it with you on this day to remember her.
This story comes from my mother’s younger days. She was 19 and living in Portland Oregon going to Bible school. She was working for a large department store called Lipman and Wolf’s. It was an expensive and swank store. On one of the upper levels it had a fancy cafeteria called the Chocolate Lounge that just served lunch. Mom worked there part time preparing sandwiches, to earn money to pay for Bible school. One older lady managed the group of young kids that worked in the kitchen. My mom came from a Christian home and her life had revolved around the church that they attended in North Hollywood. She had some very difficult things happen to her in her childhood but her main exposure to people in her life up to that point had been Christians. These kids she worked with were not. One day she heard them talking amongst themselves. They were talking about their plans for the weekend, going to a party and getting drunk. My mom was in shock. She had heard of people struggling with alcoholism and trying to stop drinking and couldn’t without the help of the Lord but she had not heard of anybody planning on getting drunk! She was so dumb founded by this, she asked them, “You mean you are planning on getting drunk?” They all burst out laughing. They said, “Why yes, don’t you do that?” She said, “No!’ Then they asked, “Well what do you do for kicks?” She told them she was a Christian and she didn’t do things like going to parties and getting drunk. They said, “Well that doesn’t sound like any fun!” She said, “Well in the Bible is says that at the Lord’s right hand there are pleasures forever and I don’t need to get drunk to feel good and be happy, the Lord makes me very happy and gives me pleasures forever. They didn’t believe that the Bible said that. The older lady that was the manager was listening in and she went up to the bookstore on the next level of the store and got a Bible and brought it back down to mom for her to read. Mom began to read Psalm 16 to them. The kitchen fell silent, you could here a pin drop. The final verse of Psalm 16 says, “You will make known to me the path of life, in Your presence is fullness of joy, In Your right hand there are pleasures forever more.” Mom closed the Bible and left. The next day when she arrived at work, one of the gals came to her asked her privately what it meant to be saved and how could she be saved?

A Michtam of David. Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust.

Psa 16:2
[O my soul], you have said to the LORD, "You [are] my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You."

Psa 16:3
As for the saints who [are] on the earth, "They are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight."

Psa 16:4
Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten [after] another [god]; Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, Nor take up their names on my lips.

Psa 16:5
O LORD, [You are] the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot.

Psa 16:6
The lines have fallen to me in pleasant [places]; Yes, I have a good inheritance.

Psa 16:7
I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel; My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.

Psa 16:8
I have set the LORD always before me; Because [He is] at my right hand I shall not be moved.

Psa 16:9
Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope.

Psa 16:10
For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

Psa 16:11
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence [is] fullness of joy; At Your right hand [are] pleasures forevermore.

Children's Festival

In this area we have a wonderful event for children. It is an annual Children's Festival held every year in July. It only costs $2.00 and is 3 hours of jammed packed fun. There are all kinds of arts and crafts booths, science booths, fun bubble pools, panning for gold, large wooden mazes, wooden animals to ride on and story book characters to talk to! There are large dragons set up that the children can pull on their tongues and put trash in their mouths and the dragon talks to them and thanks them for feeding him. It is such a cute way to get kids to pick up their trash. Everyone of them had a big line up to it. Mary went with her friend Mady and had so much fun. She came home with a macaroni necklace, a paper lei, leather bracelet, and plaster hand mold and a lot more! Here is a slide show of the pictures I took.

Grand Old Flag

We had a very fun and blessed 4th of July. The Sunday morning service at church was just wonderful. They had all the service men and women come forward to be recognized, we had special music and a drama presentation then an awesome message from Perry Adkinson. After church we came home and got ready for our 4th of July party. Mary was so excited to help me with all the decorations. She got her face painted with stars and flags in Sunday School, so she was already decorated. Grandma Cardwell gave her some light sticks and a glow in the dark wand. She had so much fun with that. We all ate snacks and played Yahtzee until it was dark enough to light the sparklers and fireworks. Then we came in and watched the fireworks back in Boston on TV. Mary just collapsed while watching TV and Daddy carried her to bed. She was fast asleep even though the fireworks in the neighborhood were going off up until midnight!

My Book

I received my book of my blog yesterday in the mail. I was so pleased to get it. It is a years worth of posts and they did such a great job! I showed it to Rich and Mary and they had so much fun looking through it and remembering all our family events. It will be such a great keepsake for us to go back and see what we did through the years and see how Mary has grown. Mary will also have a record of the wonderful stories of faith and how the Lord has helped us and her grandparents before her.

Many blessing to you today!
